Frequently asked questions
Everything parents, students, and tutors ask before their first lesson.
What is TutorHabesha?
TutorHabesha is a tutoring marketplace for Ethiopia. Students and parents compare verified tutors by subject, price in birr/hour, and reviews — then book online or in-person lessons, starting with a free 15-minute trial call.
How does TutorHabesha work?
Search your subject, compare trusted tutors, book a free 15-minute trial lesson, and start learning online or in person. You pay through the platform, and the tutor is paid after each completed lesson.
How does TutorHabesha verify tutors?
Every tutor submits a government ID and proof of knowledge — a degree, teaching certificate, or portfolio. An admin reviews each application, and only approved tutors appear publicly, with a Verified Tutor, Skilled Tutor (5+ students), or Habesha Certified (10+ students) badge.
How much does tutoring cost in Ethiopia?
Most TutorHabesha tutors charge between 260 and 900 birr per hour, depending on subject, level, and experience. Every tutor's exact price is shown upfront — no surprises — and the first 15-minute intro call is free.
Can I book online lessons?
Yes. Tutors teach through tools you already use — Google Meet, Webex, or WhatsApp Video Call. TutorHabesha handles the booking and payment; the lesson happens on the tool you both prefer.
Can I book in-person tutoring?
Yes. Many tutors teach in person across Addis Ababa — Bole, Megenagna, Kazanchis, Piassa, 4 Kilo, CMC, and more. Selected public study locations (libraries) are rolling out at launch.
How does the 15-minute trial lesson work?
Your first lesson with every new tutor is a free 15-minute intro call. You discuss your level, goals, and schedule — and only book a paid lesson if it feels right. Each student gets one free trial call per month.
Can I pay with Telebirr?
Yes — Telebirr is the default payment method. CBE mobile banking is also supported — transfer with the CBE app and upload your screenshot. More options arrive with the Telebirr API. You pay the platform first, and tutors are paid after the lesson is completed.
What subjects are available?
Mathematics, English, Physics, Amharic, Afaan Oromo, Matric exam preparation, Coding, IGCSE, Biology, Chemistry, and Tigrigna — with more (like Chinese) coming soon.
Are tutors available for Grade 1–8 and Grade 8–12?
Yes. When you book, you choose your level — Grade 1–8, Grade 8–12, Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, or IGCSE — and the lesson plan is matched to it.
Can tutors help with IGCSE or Matric exam preparation?
Absolutely. Several tutors specialise in Cambridge IGCSE and the Ethiopian Matric exam, including structured 16-week study plans with weekly mock exams and score tracking.
Can I become a tutor?
Yes — apply here with your subjects, price, and documents. After admin approval your profile goes live, and you're paid after every completed lesson via Telebirr.
Is the TutorHabesha app available?
Not yet — the iOS and Android app is coming soon. Join the waitlist on the homepage and we'll text you at launch. Until then, everything works beautifully in your phone browser.
